Blog Scandal

Sammy was horrified !!!...No Friday blog....how could such a thing happen?  He just sat outside and shook his head with disapproval.

Well, we think we have a good excuse...because guess what we were doing...

Can you imagine the joy of being let loose inside a warehouse full of gorgeous, delicious fabric...and now we just have to sit back and wait for the boxes to arrive...that will be guaranteed fun for all.

It has been great to see so many visitors this week for an up close look at the amazing raffle quilt, "Friends of  Baltimore", visiting Threadbear at the moment.

As we mentioned in our last blog, all proceeds from this raffle go to a great cause, The Caroline Chisholm Society for Pregnancy and Family Support.....so for those of you that cant get to the shop for a sticky beak, just a few more close ups of the incredible work that went into this beautiful quilt.

and a few more photos, just because it really is such a stunning quilt. Tickets are $20.00 and can be bought here at the shop or from Rose Piper, Rpiper@live.com.au

Sammy is still shaking  his head but now he is just wondering where on earth all that new fabric is going to go.

Cup Day Shop Tour.

The sun is shining and it is a Public Holiday here in Victoria as we all celebrate Melbourne Cup Day...so for lots of you we hope that means champagne, nibbles and a whole day of sewing.  We are having a great day in the shop with lots of people making the most of their day off with a visit to Castlemaine, and surely a public holiday is the perfect excuse for some stash enhancement.

We have mentioned the "Esprit de Corps Baltimore Quilt" once before and we are thrilled to have this very special quilt visiting Threadbear for a short time....this stunning quilt has been made using Sue Garman's "Friends of Baltimore" pattern by 20 of Victorias best quilters and now it is being offered as an amazing raffle prize.  Tickets are $20.00 and all proceeds go to the Caroline Chisholm society, providing pregnancy counseling and family housing support in Melbourne and country Victoria. If you get the chance, come in and see this stunning quilt while it is in the shop...it will take your breath away....and can you imagine being the lucky winner.

And for those who cant make it to the shop we thought we would take you on a shop tour of all the beautiful quilts we have hanging at Threadbear right now..

We have pretty "Maggie Grace", by Di Ford hanging in our window, right next to Corliss's "Antique Applique Sampler".

Megan Carroll's "Worthing Downs" is hanging in the next doorway right by two more of Corliss's quilts, "The English Basket Quilt" and "The Caswell Quilt".

We have Corliss's "Civil War Bride Quilt" is hanging over the door to Kurt's shop and on the opposite wall is our stunning visitor, "Esprit de Corps Baltimore Quilt"

Then on the door to our classroom we have Margaret McDonald's "Heartfelt", and a peak of Megan's "Miss Matty's Parlour" in the classroom.

Wow, seeing all those quilts  just makes you want to sew sew sew...unless of course you are Sammy, seems it just makes him want to snooze.

Leftovers.

This is good news for anyone who loves brown.  After our Dutch chintz feast we have some leftovers.  We do have more gorgeous delicious Dutch chintz coming soon because we sold out of our first order so quickly, but we have these fat 1/4s remaining.

If you missed out on getting some of this amazing fabric for you stash and you love brown well theses fat 1/4s would be perfect for you, so just call us at the shop.

There was great excitment for us in the shop this morning..we always love a delivery of Quiltmania magazine but when Quiltmania #98 arrived this morning we felt this issue was printed just for us...it features so many of our wonderful local quilters...not only are there the usual collection of inspiring projects, but there is a stunning quilt project from Michelle Yeo, an article on Melbournes Craft and Quilt Fair with photos of quilts made by some of our very own CAG members,

and as if that is not enough local excitment there is also a feature on Threadbear's friend, Margaret McDonald and her amazing collection of quilts.  All in all issue #98 of Quiltmania is not to be missed.

We wish you all a wonderful weekend...the weather is just perfect for some hand sewing and a glass of wine, outside in the sunshine....or, as recommended by Sammy, a nice snooze in the garden.

SAVE THE DATE

Very exciting news..it is official, the flyers are printed and ready to hand out to all...so please everyone, save the date.  Castlemaine Appliqué group are planning their first ever exhibition of quilts for March 15th and 16th  2014...and it promises to be visual feast for all.  You won't want to miss this wonderful exhibition of stunning appliqué quilts, so make sure you mark the dates in your diary, and just to be sure you had better put a big red cross on the wall calender as well.  Then start planning a day, or a whole weekend of fun, fun, fun.

We have another great Quiltmania book.  There are no limits to the cute projects to be found in  "Garden Party" by Reiko Kato.

There is something in this book for every one that loves to take on small projects every now and then.

There are all sorts of projects, from cute little bags to tiny little creatures...and lots of great ideas if you like to make your own Christmas gifts.

As always we had great fun with all our weekend visitors.  It was great to have Di Ford with us teaching a class for the beautiful Maggie Grace quilt.  A fun time was had by all, and even Gerry Gee was welcomed into the class room.

It is a relief to know that when Gerry Gee joined in the classroom fun he did come with his own chair...Sammy is happy to share the lime light with Gerry Gee but when there is fun in the class room Sammy likes to be in prime position.

Got to be Quick

Well, our Pheasants flew in......and flew straight back out again.  We sold out of this totally stunning print in a snap, but we did manage to get our hands on a tiny bit more.

"Pheasant Run" by Little Quilts for Henry Glass Fabrics will be back on our website as soon as we receive our delivery.  If you would like some for your stash be quick because we don't think it will last very long.

We are looking forward to a great weekend in the shop.  Friday night is our six till midnight "Sit and Sew", and on Sunday we are all looking forward to Di Ford's class, "Maggie Grace".

The pattern for this absolutely gorgeous quilt can be found in Di Ford's book, "Primarily Quilts" and we now have fabric kits in the shop with all the fabric you will need to complete the applique and hexagons, just add a border of your choice and you will be well on the way to your very own "Maggie Grace".

"Maggie Grace" kits are $95.00 plus postage and if you would like one just call us at the shop.

Now....here a Threadbear we love all of our blog friends, so the last thing we would want to do is annoy everyone with just one interesting fact...but today is October 25th and that means it is exactly two months till the "BigDay".....We have been having great fun in the shop this week putting together some gift hampers, so if you have sewing friends to buy for you can let us take the stress out of shopping and we will put together a gift hamper for you containing all manner of goodies. If you have friends interstate or overseas, we will include postage...they do look pretty good, if you buy one you may want to keep it for yourself.

Sammy's eyelids are getting heavy and he is ready for his regular Friday afternoon nap.

Before he dozes off  he would like to wish you all a very happy weekend, with lots and lots of sewing time.

Pheasants Have Just Flown In.

Look at our new fabric...isn't it beautiful.  This is the signature print from a new range by Little Quilts for Henry Glass Fabrics,  "Pheasant Run".

And as if the stunning signature print was not enough to get us excited, this range also comes with lots and lots of gorgeous prints and blenders.

It is quite a big range and every single piece in the range is great, so have your Karen Kay Buckley scissors  at the ready, (The absolute best scissors for fussy cutting), because this range is just crying out for a fussy cutting frenzy.

If you have already read our October newsletter you will have heard the exciting news that an extra date has been offered for Threadbear's Appliqué School with Di Ford and Margaret McDonald. The three original dates we planned booked out in a flash. We were so excited when we were able to add this extra date because there were so many of you that wanted to join us. The extra date is Saturday, April 5th 2014.   Just like the other dates this one is filling fast, so if you would like to join us for a fantastic day of sewing with Di and Margaret and lots & lots of fun just call us at the shop or email us for details or to book your place.

We caught Sammy doing a little happy dance at our front door.  Sammy had a great weekend in the shop, he got to catch up with lots of his friends, he got alot of attention and lots of pats, so now he is ready and waiting for more visitors.
