Collection for a Cause ~ Preservation

What a fabulous time we had in Adelaide at the Quilters Guild of South Australia's Festival of Quilts Show & Expo.  Despite facing the worst storm in South Australia in 50 years, a State-wide power blackout as we arrived, torrential rain and grid locked traffic, we got there!  And the warm welcome from the SA girls made it worth the effort!  So thankyou everyone for making it a great weekend.
Threadbear at Adelaide's Festival of Quilts Show & Expo
Speaking of guilds and there quilt shows..., the local Goldfields Quilters are holding their exhibition this weekend, 15th & 16th October at St Mary's Hall, Cnr Hargraves & Lyttleton Streets Castlemaine  Once again the Group has invited Threadbear to bring a trading table and to sponsor the major prize.  You will be assured of a great day in Castlemaine with loads of lovely quilts to inspire you, great cafes, sunny spring weather, and of course that all important fabric therapy!  Threadbear will be open 10am-4pm to match the exhibition this weekend.

Speaking of fabric therapy...last week we were excited to see the newest Collection for a Cause ~ Preservation from Moda.  Reproduced from a quilt from the 1830s, it's every bit as gorgeous as we'd hoped.  The all over florals are ideal for borders, feature blocks, or broderie perse applique.  The tone on tone stripes are brilliant.  And the fussy cutting possibilities in some of the prints are endless.  PLUS, the feature panel is one of those panels that come along every few years.  It's an excellent reproduction and printed three 13" blocks across the width of the fabric.  Click HERE to see the whole collection on our website.

On Saturday Threadbear's Castlemaine Applique Group met and enjoyed another day of stitching, catching up with friends, and some gorgeous quilts. Our scheduled guest speaker had to cancel at the last minute and we all send our very best wishes to Lyn. So we were grateful to Deb, Sue, and Meghan (three of the Secret Sewing Sisterhood) who jumped in on short notice to show us a sample of their quilts both early and recent.  Here are just a few.

We'll have more quilts from our Applique Group to show you next week. The last month in Victoria (and South Australia) have been wet, wet, wet. So what's a boy to do when you have birds to chase and a plastic pig to growl at and shake every morning on the back lawn, but to brave the elements and hope there's someone inside to let you back in and dry off your fur afterwards! Have a great week everyone!
